B1 Preliminary: Speaking Part 2

In Part 2, In this task, candidates are individually instructed by the interlocutor and take turns speaking for approximately one minute each. Each candidate is provided with a color photograph depicting everyday situations relevant to their age group. The task involves describing the contents of the photograph, focusing on people, activities, and details like colors, clothing, time of day, and weather.

The objective is to keep the descriptions simple, refrain from speculating on context or broader issues, and showcase a diverse vocabulary range. Candidates are encouraged to imagine explaining the photograph to someone who cannot see it and can use simple connectives to organize their language. Additionally, they can employ paraphrasing or other strategies when faced with unfamiliar vocabulary. Overall, the task assesses their ability to describe visual details effectively within the given time frame.

“Mother and daughter are having a good time in the kitchen making pizza together. They’re both wearing matching white aprons and chef’s hats, and they look like they’re having a serious pizza experience! The mother seems to be the pizza pro. She is showing her daughter the secrets, and Emily is paying extra attention to all the tips.

The picture also shows the ingredients for the pizza. That includes oil, eggs, flour, and milk. They want to make the perfect dough, so they use a scale to weigh the flour exactly. The mother expertly shows how to use the rolling pin. The daughter seems to be learning and enjoying the pizza cooking time experience. The kitchen looks filled with laughter and the delicious smell of baking pizza. They must be desperate to take their first bite! This picture captures the joy of cooking with family members, and it makes you want to get in the kitchen and start making your own pizza.”

“The photograph shows two ladies wearing cool white aprons and hats like TV chefs! One is young and excited, watching the other, the pizza pro, show her the secrets to getting a perfect pizza. On a big wooden board, there’s a fluffy pile of flour, like a white cloud. Next to it, ingredients stand ready: an egg bucket, oil shining like gold, and milk waiting to be mixed.

The pro has a special tool, like a tiny scale for food, to make sure the flour is just right. She scoops it into a mountain, and the young one can’t wait to jump in! They mix and push, the pro showing her how to knead it gently, like petting a soft bunny. The dough gets smooth and stretchy ready for toppings! Cheese, pepperoni, maybe even green peppers… the possibilities are endless! This isn’t just about pizza, it’s about learning, sharing, and making something yummy together. Laughter, flour fights, and finally, seeing their masterpiece come out of the oven, golden and bubbly, ready to eat! So, that’s what I see: a kitchen full of love, laughter, and the promise of a perfect pizza party! Can you smell it already?”

Alright, let’s take a look! Sunny room, comfy couch with colorful cushions – black, white, red, like a soft mountain. And right there, on the floor, a boy! School bag open next to him, books and stuff still inside. Looks tired, backpack must be heavy!

But look at his face! Big smile, eyes glued to a screen, headphones blocking out the world. Game sounds? Maybe! Probably battling monsters or racing cars, having an adventure! Hands flying on the buttons, so fast! He’s relaxed, happy, school worries far away.

This couch, his own little kingdom. Cushions like clouds, backpack like a loyal dog sleeping nearby. He’s earned this break, long day at school. Now, just games and fun, a happy ending to the day. So, that’s what I see: a tired but happy boy, recharging in his comfy world. School’s over, time for fun!”

“Okay, check this out! The picture shows a cosy living room. In the middle of it all, this young guy is relaxing on the floor, looking as content as a starfish. Surrounding him is a heap of cushions, a comfy rainbow of black, white, and red, keeping him even more relaxed.

Right next to him is his half-open backpack, showing his school stuff. You can spot pens sticking out, maybe a notebook with some scribbles, and some fruit hanging out in the corner.

But here’s the cool part – his eyes are glued to the screen in his hands, with headphones on, blocking out the world. He’s deep into some adventure, and his thumbs are working those controls like a mini-magician. And that grin on his face? It’s like all the stress from school is melting away quicker than ice cream on a sunny summer day.

You might feel like telling him to put his feet up, but honestly, he’s good. He’s in his own happy bubble, and it looks pretty darn amazing. This is his chill zone, his recharge station after a long day of school. And in that moment, with the game buzzing and the cushions cradling him, you just know everything’s alright. So, there you have it – a tired but happy kid, escaping into his own little world of games and comfort. He’s earned it, and it’s a beautiful sight to witness. 🌟”
